Striking, detailed, and timeless, The Sophisticated One earned its name through its flowing black-and-white line work.


This hand-drawn design began with a simple leaf shape at the centre of the page and gradually expanded outward into something much more intricate. I created it while doodling at a conference in the Philippines, building the piece first with bold lines, then filling the shapes with finer details using pens with different nib sizes.


Even without colour, the design creates depth through shifting shapes, layered forms, and changes in line width. To me, it shows how much complexity can emerge from simplicity. When I look at it now, my eyes are drawn to the places where the thick black lines overlap, creating a flowing sense of depth that almost pulls me into the design.


This piece is especially meaningful to me because it was one of the first drawings that received such a strong response from family and friends. People kept asking whether I had really drawn it by hand, and that reaction helped me begin imagining that my artwork could become something beyond the page.


Professionally printed on soft polyester chiffon satin, this scarf has a flowing, silk-like feel and works beautifully as versatile black-and-white wearable art. It can be styled with almost anything, from casual outfits to more refined looks.
